about

Greene Street Parade: On March 17, 1906 twenty miners lost their lives in Silverton, Colorado, a small and once bustling mining town of southern Colorado. A series of avalanches occurred within hours of each other, taking the lives of those living and working high in the San Juan Mountains. The bodies of the twenty miners were carried by horse drawn carriages down Greene Street, the main thoroughfare of Silverton, to be buried in the frozen ground of the town’s cemetery. In the bluegrass world we rarely hear stories of the miners that lived and worked high in the Rocky Mountains-- miners that bravely kept the mines running throughout Colorado’s harsh winters.
